Estimate the length of time you will need. Life is short; the burdens are heavy. The mind is slippery. We cannot argue with life. We hear. We learn. We stumble. Most of all, we seek the wrong path.
If we could see the end from the beginning, would we be as careless with the knowledge granted us? Would we seek diligently for what is right? But then, we would still be on the wrong side of life. We may know what is right, but how do we grasp it?
Yes, how do we grasp it? There are so many ways to take the easy, but wrong road. The path we want to follow may be filled with lovely roses, but the stems have thorns. Why is that? It seems there are thorns everywhere. No place to put your hands, or your heart. There are too many briars to contend with.
Look for an easy path, but you cannot find one. Each path you envision has a block in the way. Just when your life seems to follow a comfortable, reliable beckoning, a monster raises its ugly head. You did not realize there were so many deterrents. Try again? What is the use. All the paths are misleading; they are full of sorrow, longing for a way out, but there is no way. The struggle continues.
But there are some bright spots. Life can bring happiness and moments of comfort and love. However, these moments are few. We lose our friends, sometimes one of our family members. Life goes on, but it has been distorted. We no longer can restore the kinder, rewarding moments life brings. We are brought low, to the Valley of Decision.
We do not want to go there. It looks formidable. We have no knowledge of what the future may bring. However, the Valley is there. We must go through it. Why? If we want to find life, we must go there. We fight it. We flail our arms as we try to pass. We cannot reckon with what we cannot comprehend. But if we try to evade it, what will happen to us? Our lives are meaningless without love. How do we find love? We marry, have children. We are happy for a little while, but then we are in the Valley again, facing the decision we are given to consider.
There is in the distance, a rope. It is a rope in which to tie a knot. The knot will be huge. The rope is thick. We long for peace. Somewhere in the distance is the love and peace that we need. Look for the place to tie the knot.. You will find it there in the rope that you tie. The knot that you tie is found in our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Do you believe him? Do you understand who he is? You have to go through the Valley of Decision; you will find him if you do not give up. He is just above the Valley, waiting for you. It is time for you to tie the knot and be free.
