Its hue dons the famous and great
With diamonds, plush furs, and bright jewelry,
They wear it to matters of state.
There was a kind seller of purple,
Lydia, who lived in north Greece.
She met Paul and received Jesus
Which filled her heart with great peace.
A woman passed by with bad spirits.
Her owners were evil and greedy.
Her antics caused them to grow richer;
Their treatment of her was quite seedy.
She wanted release from those demons,
From her owners most bawdy and bad.
Paul healed her from those demon spirits,
Thus, her owners felt maligned and mad!
Jesus saved this sad woman.
An old seer, she rose from the gloom.
Her love for others and the Lord
Took seed, and she started to bloom.
Sol’mon in all of his glory,
His wisdom, his wealth, and his fame,
Sometimes wore garments of purple
To flatter his iconic name.
The flamboyant Queen of Sheba
Went to his royal city of God.
She wanted to hear the king’s wisdom;
She wanted to see lands he trod.
She was enthralled with his knowledge;
She was enthralled with his powers.
Her eyes filled with tears at his riches
And the essence of his blooming flowers.
Were Sol’mon and this queen fast lovers?
The Bible does not clearly say.
“Lord, give my heart understanding,”*
The king was so noted to pray.
Clementis, a popular flower
Grows on a dry, woody vine.
It grows in temperate climates,
And its deep purple shade is sublime.
It lures pretty lovers to romance;
It lures birds and bees to its place.
On a trellis this plant grows quite lovely,
And it forms a pattern of lace.
.
I love when these priceless blooms blossom,
Purple petals and rich fragrance, too.
I think of the robes draping Jesus,
And all the great things he can do.
I Kings 3:9 (KJV) *
