When Sunday comes, we will reunite and give “thoughtful consideration to one another in order to stir up love and good works in one another, exhorting one another…not forsaking the assembling of ourselves (Heb. 10:24-26 paraphrased).”
When Sunday comes, the entire congregation will mingle at the entrance to the sanctuary and express welcoming kindness to our visitors and greet one another with a hug and a kiss as we “…put on love, which is the bond of perfection (Col. 3:14).” We will gladly come together again and in chorus, “Praise the Lord with the harp; make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy (Psalm 33:2-3).”
When Sunday comes, we will joyfully march around to the offering plates to “…bring all the tithes into the storehouse. That there may be food in my house (Mal. 3:10).” and “…as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another…(Col. 3:12-13).”
When Sunday comes, the whole assembly will unify and enter the courts of the Lord with thanksgiving and praise, and together, give earnest worship to our God in his temple, honor him in his sanctuary, and express to Him adoration and love, for we agree, “… the Lord is great and greatly to be praised…(1 Chron. 16:25).”
As one body, we will simultaneously take our neighbors by the hand and, on one accord, we will pray as we “…let the peace of God rule in [our] hearts, to which also [we] were called in one body; and be thankful (Col. 3:15).”
When Sunday comes we will attend Sunday School together to devote ourselves to the study of the word of God, and then join together in the sanctuary to receive the preached word and “…Let the word of Christ dwell in [us] richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another… (Col. 3:16).”
As the Lord desires, we attend our local congregation, temple, sanctuary, or church on a day set aside for the entire assembly to fellowship; strengthen and stir up one another; to express hospitality and love to each other and to strangers; to offer the sacrifice of our finances and surrender our praise; and to abide in his word and his work, all to the glory, honor, and proclamation of the greatness of our savior. Yes, the fellowship and unity is sweet when Sunday comes.
But sweeter still it would be for each member of Christ’s body to “be” the temple, the sanctuary, the church, and daily live in harmony with our Creator, and join him in his work. How fragrant it must be to him for each individual member to faithfully represent the Savior’s love the rest of the week as well.
God gives us, first, a heavenly vision of his church in Acts 2:44-46, “Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people.” And, secondly, its unified purpose, “And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved (vs. 47).”
How pleasing it must be to God for each member of his body synchronously, all over the world, to offer their lives to one another daily. And even more pleasing to offer themselves to God in worship on a daily basis, proclaiming as the living creatures in Rev. 4:8, "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come…" day and night - they never stop!
Why wait until next week to bask in the glow of his sweet Koinonia? Why do we wait until Sunday comes?
