I was blind
And led by the blind…
Into ditches so deep I fell,
The depths none could tell…
I was fearful
And never been so tearful…
At the dark clouds I shivered,
In the perilous winds I whimpered…
I was angry
Could I ever be friendly?
My heart and soul was filled with anguish
Like a sea without any fish
Then…
I stumbled upon a cross,
Rugged and dirty, it was no great loss,
I drew close however and my head began to ring,
For I saw a sign above, “Here on died a great King”?
A king on a cross…A KING ON A CROSS?!
I was puzzled but couldn’t understand why I made a fuss.
“He had it coming,” I thought, “only the wicked deserved a shameful death.”
In my anger I smacked it on the side and suddenly I was taken from the earth!
I landed on my seat from a very great height with a very loud thump…
I stood to my feet and looked around me as I rubbed on my rump.
Then I heard a loud roar and my heart skipped a few beats.
“You son of dust, how dare you? Can your anger stand my heat?”
I crumpled to the ground and in great quakes of fear dared to ask,
“Who are you, great one? Spare me mighty one.”
“I was the King on the cross and that was no small task.
I died that you might live, crucified that you may receive a crown.”
“O King, where is the crown? Why do I bask in anger?
Why do I tremble in fear and grow all blinder?”
“Believe in me and come into my presence. Receive my touch.
Your eyes will see, heart emboldened, anger no longer a torch.”
So I believed that day and came into His arms.
I wept and wept peacefully in the Lamb.
I knew there and then that something had changed
Now and forever I was out of my cage.
After…
I became a fisher of many men
No longer did I stay in my den.
I laughed never annoyed,
A man overjoyed.
Trial came after trial,
Pain lost its dial,
True it all I held on tight.
A man of faith not flight.
I brought my guide to the cross,
A cross of no great loss.
The blind could now see
A Man on the sea.
The judges looked at the boy as he finished his poem. He stood there looking to the ground waiting for it to open so he could be swallowed up.
“Young man,” the chief judge said, “Your poem was the poorest I have ever listened to. The structure is poor. The wordings don’t entirely rhyme or…what do you mean by ‘Like a sea without any fish’?...”
The judge went on and on and with scathing comment, the boy sank deeper and deeper wondering what was wrong.
“As far as the competition is concerned, you scored a zero.”
A tear slipped from his eyes. He started to turn away when the judge got his attention. “ “But…,” he began…
“You were blind but now you can see
You have seen the King walk on the sea.
I’m blind and have gone far astray
Take my hand, show me the life and way.”
With that the judges fell on their knees before the young boy of twelve years and asked to be introduced to the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
