Rubble. Rubble is the aftermath that the naked eye sees’ in the event of structural ruination. There is however, another kind of rubble. The kind you don’t see. It is the emotional debris left in the wake of a broken heart. The walls of our heart, if not constructed by the fertile soil of love can crumble in a matter of minutes. And if we are not careful, can hinder our mobility as a believer.
The enemy has orchestrated a massive attack on this generation like no other. His tactics are many but include one central theme; the universal offense of pain. Pain can be physical and emotional and comes in many different forms; addiction, abandonment and abuse, as well as more subtle offenses such as neglect, betrayal and disappointment. If we set up camp and fan the flame of pain it will inevitably turn into anger. And anger unchecked, is a fiery flame just waiting to take flight. People who have been the object of someone else’s pain usually inflict pain upon others. It is a vicious cycle and exactly what the enemy wants us to engage in. He sets the stage and we tend to perpetuate the destruction.
The key verse found in Isaiah is a prescription for action as it relates to the wreckage accumulated from emotional refuse. We all have scars etched upon our souls, some more visible than others as a result of pain. Each wound and resulting scar represents a boulder in our road to the life God has ordained for us. We, as believers have the choice of what we do with these stumbling blocks. We can struggle, in our own strength, to maneuver through life and the minefield of emotional rubble. Or we can set our hearts on pilgrimage, cast our sights beyond the rubble to a hope yet fulfilled and focus our attention on diligently removing the barriers out of the way.
Foundation is paramount. Make sure the soil of your heart is fertile with prayer and the healing word of God. Then take inventory. Where were the cracks in your spiritual wall? What flamed the emotional fire? How did it spark? Identify the obstacles in your path. Ask God what needs immediate removal in order for you to forge ahead with unequivocal clarity on finishing this race of life strong!
When Jesus is our trailblazer upon the pavement of earth, the throughway seems to narrow with each step (see Matthew 7:14). We need a concentrated line of sight in order to forgive the pain of a hurtful past. Set the eyes of your heart to see the purposes of your specific pain. Carry the lessons with you but remove the destructive byproduct out of the way. You, beloved have a purpose to fulfill. A clear passage allows you to have a singleness of focus on Him. Travel onward, your crown of life is waiting.
