The following is a poem that took me two days to conjure up. My musical tastes run towards "Puff the Magic Dragon" so you'll forgive me if I didn't get all the nuances right.
"RAP FOR THE SAVIOUR"
Thought's came and crept across my MIND tonight,
while I looked deep inside me for some inspiration and INSIGHT.
I wanted something that was inspirATIONAL,
but also light and maybe just a little PERSONAL.
I raised my eyes and there above me was a CRUCIFIX.
No humor THERE where the blood and the nails and the mucas all tend to mix.
A dying preacher who had no time and had WAY too much to TELL.
A little bit of heaven and a little bit of HELL.
"Too morbid" for most readers it just seemed to ME...
Too much of "Good Samaritans" and too much of the garden of GethsemanEE.
"Let's keep it light" is what my mind just kept on TELLIN me.
You'll lose your public if you try a message that's too "HEAVY".
This morning in the paper I had SEEN.
Madonna on a cross of SILVER with a mirrored sheen.
She stated this was "not in disRESPECT. I'm sorry, but I must
re-spect-ful-ly OBJECT.
MY Saviour wasn't dressed in gold or seperated from His FOLD.
He didn't have a place to lay His head and didn't have a HAND TO HOLD.
He raised the dead, but He never raised a million BUCKS.
But He was kind to folks who happened to be down on their LUCK.
He gave a widow back her one and only BOY...
He ordered grave clothes off a dead man to the sister's pride and JOY
At Cana He changed water into WINE...
along the way He made a blind man see just FINE...
The cross that He was on was nasty and the nails probably were RUSTY.
People round Him that He trusted so much, now weren't very TRUSTY.
Now THEY were running from the killer who appeared to have Him in his clutch.
Even so He never really uttered very much...
She can say "No DIS-respect here was inTENded".
I think if she could see the REAL cross, her whole CONCERT would be ENDED.
I think it's fine to learn and grow and even "open up an EYE or two".
But dragging in the One who came to save the world means
YOU'RE prepared to "shelve" salvation TOO.
