There is laundry to do.
Floors to vacuum,
Windows to wash...and that’s just at home.
At the office, I have people to call and papers to type.
In town, I must get the mail and put gas in the car.
I have so much to do and so little time,
So I hurried straight into my day without a thought of what HE may have planned.
As my day unfolded it just seem to fall apart.
The laundry it’s not done...the washer broke.
There is no time to vacuum,
Because the phone won’t stop ringing...why do people keep interrupting me?
Don’t they understand I’m a busy person.
The windows will have to wait for the raining is falling in buckets.
I did get the typing done.
And the phone feels like it is permanently attached to my ear.
In town I ran out of gas on my way to get the mail.
So here I sit on the side of the road,
Things simply have not gone the way that I planned.
I don’t understand!
My plans are not evil. I am trying to do good.
I have responsibilities to attend to.
I’m just sitting here in this car...fuming over the lost time....when
a lady knocks on my window.
She was soaked from the rain.
She asked if I needed help and of course I said “yes”.
I explained all of my plans and how they have been dashed because people
just kept getting in my way.
She pulled from her trunk a jug of gas and put it into my tank.
I offered to pay her but she refused.
She said something to me I shall never forget...
“Excuse me, the only thing I ask in return for the gas is that you slow down.”
“I’m sorry...what are you talking about?” I said.
She then began to speak in a soft calming voice with tears swelling up in her eyes.
“I once was a busy person with my plans and agendas before me. Anger and frustration overwhelmed me to the point that I walked away from family, friends and responsibilities.
Today I stand before you a humbled person. See I met Jesus. He has time for me.
He asks me to have time for others. All the best laid plans are in vain if we forget people.
Jesus died for people, not plans.”
She got back in her car and drove away. I’ve never see her since, but her words ring continually
in my ears. “Jesus died for people, not plans.”
A lesson I have learned. A lesson I hope I never forget.
Being selfish with my time is not pleasing to my Jesus.
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:” it says in
Ecclesiastes 3:1...So tomorrow when I awake...I shall ask what HE has planned.
