Topic: Pen and Paper (07/17/14)
With paper before me and pen in hand,
I will try to make you understand
What my relationship with Jesus means.
It is hard to know where to start, it seems.

The example my parents set was good.
In serving God they did the best they could.
The heritage they left, of faith so strong,
Teaches me the difference in right from wrong.

Remembering what happened in the past,
Obedience to God is what will last.
Choice of career according to His will,
The right one to marry, then, and is still.

Children are a special gift from God, it’s true.
Each move in our journey, He saw us through.
For richer, for poorer, for better, for worse,
In sickness or in health, each other nurse.

Regardless, God never let go my hand.
Such love and mercy, I can’t understand.
God so loved us He gave His only Son.
Salvation for everyone was won.

If we will believe and confess our sin,
Open our hearts, Jesus will enter in.
In the Bible God tells us how to live.
By His grace He will pardon and forgive.

The Bible is His love letter to us.
Learning to know Him better is a plus.
The worship and fellowship of my church
Bring blessing and strength and joy in my search.

I can’t imagine what my life would be
If Jesus was not living in me.
I would be afraid to get out of bed.
I’d still be afraid to stay there, instead.




Because God has blessed me so very much,
I want everyone to feel his touch.
Joy, peace and blessing is what He imparts.
I know He is real. He lives in my heart.

God always answers my prayers, it is true.
Often in a way better than I knew.
Many things are wrong in our world today.
God is in control, He will make a way.

If we are not ready at his return,
Forever in hell is where we will burn.
Because I love you, please consider this.
Joys of heaven, I don’t want you to miss.

A nicely written poem that reminds us that we must be faithful till the end. Choosing to obey God is not a one time act. We choose to do so each day because the Holy Spirit within us urges us to obey the teachings of the bible.

Well written. Keep on writing for the glory of God.

This is a lovely piece. Instantly I felt drawn in and the rhythm and rhymes coaxed me into a sense of peace.

Out of the eight judging criteria, I think your weakest was writing on topic. Without that one line of the Bible being a love letter (which a love letter could be done in many ways other than pen and paper), I struggled with seeing the topic. Ideally one would be able to guess it if not known.

You did a fine job with the other criteria though. Your poem flowed smoothly, and I could feel your passion in each verse. There's nothing more poetic and perfect than Jesus' love, and I felt that beautiful message in every line. You also handled the ending well. You left me smiling and nodding my head. Keep writing and God bless.
