Previous Challenge Entry (Level 1 – Beginner)
Topic: Shhh. (02/18/10)
With a quick glance behind me, I turned into the parking lot and walked my bike up to the rack. Eyes wide, I took a step back to look at the building, taking in every detail from the tan stone to the tall windows letting the morning sun shine inside. Slowly, I made my way along the sideway and up to the doors.

This was the moment I had been waiting for since the groundbreaking many months ago and my heart speed up as the anticipation built. Standing just outside of the doors, I couldn’t help but glance inside the window for a sneak peek. My breath caught at the sight of a wooden bridge and whimsical decorations.

One more step and the automatic doors slid open in front of me. Catching my lip between my teeth, I took a hesitant step inside and then another causing the second set to open as well. Pristine tile floor spread out in front of me, artificial light melding with the sunlight. For just a moment, the sights and smells stilled my feet, but the lure was just too strong and I stepped inside fully.

My mouth hung open as I turned to view it all. There was the children’s area I had glimpsed from outside, bright and fanciful, ready for eager explorers. And over there where the rows of red and gold bindings seem to go on for ages, that must be non-fiction. New computers hummed softly from the back corner, each open and ready for someone to sit and see the world.

A smile slowly broke out as my gaze landed on my goal. Brilliantly decorated covers designed to draw the eye winked at me from the raised area directly in front. My favorite friends were already there, waiting to draw me into the world of imagination.

“Oh my…” I breathed out at last with an excited clap of my hands, “…It’s perfect…”

“Shhhh….” Came the gentle reminder.

Glancing over my shoulder, I saw a familiar face smiling softly at me. “Welcome to the new library.”

You described a beautiful library. They are one of my favorite places in the world. Good job showing your passion for the building that houses many a dream.
