Yellow speaks fluently to white:
"Who's that?"
White replies "I know not" in her mastered poetic fashion
Bright orange puts her two cents in:
"Well, where did she come from? I've read about this commie infiltration in the Reader's Digest and other magazines before."
Red answers by placing two petals up to her lips and nonchalantly blowing kisses to the wind, as if she could care less about the whole matter."
Green twirls around in impish delight under the golden sun and sings a little ditty to himself "I don't care who she is or what she wants as long as she knows that this is OUR garden."
"She looks rather wild if you ask me," blushes pink. Yellow beams candidly: "Looks like she's been around the block a time or two (if you know what I mean) - one thing for certain, she's NOT ONE OF US."
"Well, I don't like her," white sneers. "I mean, really - look at that outfit she's wearing and that hair! It looks like she has yellow feathers in her belly button for goodness sake. She has to be from the wrong side of the tracks. My Momma warned me about her kind."
Then the roses at the other end of the garden spoke and suddenly the whole gang of mums became very, very quiet and listened to what the wise roses had to say.
"You were once strangers in a foreign land, as well, they said. Now look at you, blooming gloriously in every hue surrounded by your friends and relatives - each and every one of you with your own talents and colors to bring."
Don't you know that stranger among you was planted only yesterday - her name is "Iris" and her gift to you is: PURPLE.
