TITLE: The Dark Wood | Previous Challenge Entry

As day began to fade and her way became harder, she finally noticed that she had come too far. At first she did not fear for she had confidence in herself and knew she surely wasn’t far from her starting point. But as she turned to begin her way home, her heart begin to pound as she realized that she had left no trail or sign of the way she had come.
It seemed a fog lifted from her mind as she focused on her surroundings and she could not remember what had drawn her here. The thorns she had not noticed till now, spread out before her as if to say there’s no way back.
She began to think of her family and home and what she had left behind and her heart began to mourn for what she had walked away from. Children, husband, job and home. What could she have been thinking? What was wrong with her? How could she just walk away from all that she had?
The tears began to flow as she realized that the tricks of the raven had drawn her away from the openness of love and safety into a place where she was all alone. Bitterness overflowed and her heart broke as she finally understood she had believed the raven would take her to a higher, more fulfilling place, a place where she could find freedom and soar on the wind with no cares or concerns. But in reality, the raven had lied and stolen all that was worth anything.
Sobbing with such force it seemed she would break, she stumbled on mourning her loss. Crying out her pain, she called on the only One who could save her, “Oh God, Oh God! Please don’t leave me in this dark place.”
She falls upon a clearing to land on her knees. Though scratched and torn, she has only one thought in her heart, she simply wants to go back to how things had been.
Raising her head to seek for some help, she sees an old well that lays up ahead. Crawling on hands and knees she reaches out for even the smallest hope, but she is overcome with bitterness once more as she sees that it is dry.
Leaning upon the well, her tears flow like rain as she pours out all her broken dreams. Finally finding herself talking to her LORD, she asks His forgiveness and tells Him of her sorrow.
How much time does she spend leaning upon that well? How many tears flow in her choice to follow the raven into a dark wood?
Time passes and when she has poured out till there is no more, she hears His voice say, “I’ll show you the way home.” Lifting her head, she finds the well is no longer dry but is full of fresh water. Filled to the brim with sweet living water! She drinks deeply and finds her strength renewed. Hope begins to grow and she finds herself happier than she can remember in a long time.
She rises to her feet and looks to her right, and there lies a path bathed in warm sunshine. Stepping upon it she follows it to a place of safety and rest away from the darkness of despair and loneliness.
Her children wait for her and forgiveness is received. Her life is restored and new beginnings are made. Though she cannot regain all that was past, something sweeter is gained in freedom from the raven. She has new strength and hope in Him now and He is her guide for all of her days. She no longer walks alone in a dark wood, for He has filled her well with life giving water.
