The pitch is often low
Blood drops silently from his head down to his toes
To the soggy ground below
The cheers from some of the onlookers here
Are so loud and so high
The whimpers from others are light and deep
With the occasional outburst cry
Thunder booms so loud overhead
Lightning splits the sky
Darkness falls over the land this day
The ninth hour is nigh
The shroud of death is upon him now
The final hour is here
He cried, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Hoping his Father would hear
With one last breath and one loud cry
Jesus hung his head
The curtain of the temple split in two
The King of the Jews was dead
Joseph of Arimathea, that day
Took Jesus from the cross
He wrapped him in linen and placed him in a tomb
Mourning this terrible loss
Imagine the sound of the stone rolling away,
With the guards standing in fright
Their voices trembling and their bodies shaking
At this incredible sight
Three days has passed since the Savior died,
When Mary went to the tomb
She screamed in surprise to find that Jesus wasn’t there,
Just an empty room
When Mary told the others this news,
Peter rushed to the site
He saw the linens that Jesus had left
He knew Mary was right
While the disciples were talking, their minds reeling,
So puzzled and confused,
Jesus appeared to them suddenly saying,
“Peace be with you.”
His words flowed from his mouth so sweet
What a sight it was indeed
To see those nail-scarred feet and hands
Proof our souls are redeemed.
If Jesus’ words were a song to be sung;
To look at his beautiful face,
It would flow so gently and touch my soul
It’s truly a melody of grace.
