Missions
It is of general belief that the most important information to be passed to a generation is always spoken on death bed. When Jacob was about to die, he called all his children together to tell them what would happen to them in the last days (Genesis 49).
But Jesus never waited till death time before he started telling the world the most important thing to him. His mission was announced at His birth. ‘FOR HE SHALL SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS’ (Matthew 1:21). He lived all His life doing just one thing: PREACHING THE GOD-NEWS.
The bible says: ‘How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.’ Acts 10:38. Jesus’ missions here on earth include PREACHING, TEACHING and HEALING from sickness, diseases and demonic oppressions. He crowned it by shedding his blood on the cross for the redemption of the whole human race.
Jesus was not alone in this assignment; he empowered his followers to be part of this mission.
THEN HE CALLED HIS TWELVE DISCIPLES TOGETHER, AND GAVE THEM POWER AND AUTHORITY OVER ALL DEVILS, AND TO CURE DISEASES. AND HE SENT THEM TO PREACH THE KINGDOM OF GOD, AND TO HEAL THE SICK. Luke 9:1&2.
While Jesus was here in the flesh, he anointed his followers to go into towns and villages to preach the gospel for the salvation of the lost.
After his death and resurrection, he gave the most important responsibility to all Christians popularly called ‘THE GREAT COMMISSION’.
AND HE SAID UNTO THEM, GO YE INTO ALL THE WORLD, AND PREACH THE GOSPEL TO EVERY CREATURE. Mark 16:15.
Who was Jesus talking to here? You of course! The commission to reach out to nations of the world to bring sinners to God is to all Christian. Every Christian may not be called to the office of an evangelist, but all is called as SOUL-WINNERS. Disobedience to this call may spell doom for the erring Christian. If you dearly love the Lord as you claim, then you must obey him in all things including global evangelism. Let your heart be where God’s heart is. You are supposed to do the ‘DEEDS OF YOUR FATHER’ and that is soul winning.
Hear what the bible says:
FOR WHOSOEVER SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED. HOW THEN SHALL THEY CALL ON HIM IN WHOM THEY HAVE NOT BELIEVED? AND HOW SHALL THEY BELIEVE IN HIM OF WHOM THEY HAVE NOT HEARD? AND HOW SHALL THEY HEAR WITHOUT A PREACHER? AND HOW SHALL THEY PREACH, EXCEPT THEY BE SENT? AS IT IS WRITTEN, HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THEM THAT PREACH THE GOSPEL OF PEACE, AND BRING GLAD TIDINGS OF GOOD THINGS! Romans 10:13-15.
The Lord has called you as a Bringer of glad tiding of good things, and He promised to reward you with beautiful experiences. Remember, the gospel is not a good-news; neither can it save sinners until it is preached. You the PREACHER. God depends on you to save sinner all over the world. I hope you won’t disappoint Him.
WHAT MUST I DO?
Simple and easy task! The Lord expects you to use every available mean at your disposal to preach. (tract publication and distribution, one-on-one evangelism, compassion based outreach, internet preaching, bible teaching, etc). The opportunities are inexhaustible.
He also wants you to stand in the gap by interceding for the salvation of the lost world. You can also be a sender by supporting world evangelism efforts through financial and equipment aid.
The Lord has a DREAM. He dreams that none should perish but that all should come to the knowledge of God and repent. Is God’s DREAM your DREAM? God is not coming down to preach again. He placed us here to do it on His behalf.
Winning the lost world for God is MY RESPONSIBILTY, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, and it is OUR COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY. I am doing my part. I am putting in my best and my all. I am doing all I can. How I wish I could do more, but God is my witness that I am not disobedient to this heavenly calling. What about you? What are you doing? Preaching, Praying, Giving?
God is waiting for you to act, and then wonders will follow you and your life. He has an irrevocable commitment:
‘And they went forth, and preached every where, THE LORD WORKING WITH THEM, AND CONFIRMING THE WORD WITH SIGNS FOLLOWING. AMEN.’ Mark 16:20.
