[PATIENTLY WAITING.]
"I don't know,
if they still
CALL 'EM,
that,
LORD!"
[LISTENING.]
"Ya know:
those LEG CRAMPS,
that WAKE YA UP,
in the MIDDLE
of the NIGHT?"
[PATIENT NOD.]
(Shake head.)
(Grimmacing.)
"Haven't HAD
one 'a THOSE,
in a WHILE!"
[CALM NOD.]
"UGH!
DAMN those
things,
are NASTY!"
[NOD.]
(Silence.)
"Yeah.....
I could SWEAR,
it was in the middle
of that dream,
I had."
[FIRM VOICE.]
"Don't swear,
child."
(Impatient squirm!)
"It's just an EXPRESSION,
Lord!"
(Ornery glance,
up at ceiling.)
"Ya KNOW?
You REALLY SHOULD

[PATIENT SIGH.]
[CHUCKLE.]
"Yeah....I was
having an okay-dream;
then all of sudden,
HE shows up in it:
it's raining just a little,
and he's wearing one 'a
those expensive dark SUITS,
he always wore.....
and he gets into this
horse-n-buggy thing:
like...
one 'a those things,
they have in New York City
to drive tourists, around in.....
and,
he's looking the other way,
and going the other way,
away from me,
for a romantic night,
with his lady-love......
ECH!"
(Spit.)
[CALM GAZE.]
(Spit.)
"ECH!
YUK!
ECH!
Why did HE have to
show up,
in my DREAM?
YUK!"
[PATIENT SILENCE.]
"Can't You make 'em,
go AWAY,
LORD?"
"No,
My child."
"WHY NOT?"
"Because,
they're part
of
life."
