Until I see a sunset’s gold
Amid more brilliant hues.
My favorite color’s flowers in red . . .
Until I see varieties
Of pale pastels instead.
My favorite color’s purple heights . . .
Until I see beyond the peaks
To valleys’ lush green sights.
My favorite color’s fall’s bright leaves . . .
Until I see on dogwood limbs
Pink petals in spring breeze.
My favorite color’s crystal rain . . .
Until I see great flakes of snow
That leave a pure white stain.
My favorite color’s turquoise seas . . .
Until I see a giant moon
That’s made of yellow cheese.
My favorite color’s birds on wing . . .
A trail of black against the sky,
Until the brown wren sings.
Such lovely tints in earth abide,
My favorite color God has made,
I really can’t decide.
