I smell out the fear
Living behind brown eyes
Laying in wait right beside
My injured courage
God looks in my mirror
He sees Jesus
God holds up the mirror
Jesus face is clear
His smiling brown eyes
Invite me to realize
His life is mine
How can it be
Do my eyes deceive
Or is His view obscured
I am dirt and bone
Jesus is celestial
Who’s right
I look again in the mirror
Denouncing all fear
Light breaks from brown eyes
Hope is birthed deep inside
My spirit and soul
I look with God’s eyes
I see Jesus
Christ in me
The hope of glory
But then I glance in the glass
I sense the helplessness
Skulking deep in the brow
Echoing questions of how
Can He love me
God glances in my glass
He sees Jesus
God points to the glass
I watch as failures pass
They’re washed made clean
Death’s defeated Life remains
Calling out to me
How can it be
Do my eyes deceive
Or is His view obscured
I am dirt and bone
Jesus is celestial
Who’s right
Now I look in the glass
Kindness Goodness Faithfulness
Gentleness Peace and Joy are mine
Patience Poise and Love all shine
From the Spirit now alive
I look with God's eyes
I see Jesus
Christ in me
The hope of glory
Later I catch my reflection
I’m stung by rejection
All wounds appear septic
Awash in the sickness
Of sin and regret
God catches my reflection
He sees Jesus
God points to my reflection
“I see only perfection
No sin or spot or stain
Will ever be able to remain
Upon you My child”
How can it be
Do my eyes deceive
Or is His view obscured
I am dirt and bone
Jesus is celestial
Who’s right
I catch my reflection
And worship in adoration
My God who is pure goodness
Adopted me and places
Me with Him in Jesus
I look with God's eye
I see Jesus
Christ in me
The hope of glory
