And apples on a vine,
Or needles flourish on an oak
And leaves upon a pine . . .
When thunderstorms rain dollar bills
And snow is warm and glowing,
Or up and down meet face to face
And ocean waves stop rolling . . .
When sun starts rising in the West
And setting in the East,
Or moon’s made of vanilla cake,
Where all the stars can feast . . .
When cows can stand on their hind legs
And turkeys have four feet,
Or flies are large as elephants
And cats think dogs are neat . . .
When squirrels pull huge carriages
And horses swing from trees,
Or winds refuse to blow at all
With even smallest breeze.
When little boys won’t play in dirt
And love to go to bed,
Or forego eating ice cream cones
For Brussel sprouts instead . . .
When these impossibilities
Will one and all come true,
It’s then, my sweetheart, you will know
That I’ve stopped loving you.
