She needed a good plan.
Although she’d never cooked before,
She hoped to please her man.
“How hard could one meal be?” she thought
“I’m college educated,
And Mom’s the best cook in the world.
It’s good that we’re related.”
She knew he liked his chicken fried,
Believed that he liked rice,
And adding side of fresh green beans
With yeast rolls would be nice.
Prepared she list of all she’d need
To make just what she wanted,
And with a song within her heart,
She sallied forth undaunted.
She labored hard all afternoon
The best that she was able,
Then got her pretty new plates out
And filled them at the table.
The chicken she’d fried to a crisp,
The beans were underdone,
The rice was dry, though plentiful,
And yeast rolls, there were none.
He took one look at dinner plate,
And though she’d not deserve it,
He said, “This is an awful mess.
My mom would never serve it.”
While his opinion was the truth,
‘Twas better he’d not share it.
She dumped his plate into his lap
And said, “Here, you can wear it!”
This was a hurt for both of them
That time and true love cured.
She learned to cook, he practiced tact,
And wedded joy endured.

Fun read- I liked it, and I am not a huge fan of poetry.
