(Deep breath) Ah, this is nice. I’m glad you pulled me out of bed. Even before reading my devotional. (Laugh) That’s funny, isn’t it, Lord—to skip devotions to go for a walk with You? You don’t care if we even talk, do You? It’s good to just be. Be together.
Oh, it feels so good to walk tall, and stride long, and swing arms, and breathe deep. Why don’t I do this more often? (Smile) You are the One asking that question, aren’t You?
Whoah! (Jump sideways) What was that? A blast of heat? Where did it come from? (Turning round and round). This is a four-way crosswalk. There’re no heat vents around here. A parking lot behind me. A street in front of me. Another parking lot. A two-story house, but it’s across the street. Too far away to shoot heat at me. It must have been my imagination.
Shall we keep walking?
Whoah? There it is again. Warmth. Lord, this is so strange. Am I crazy? (Looking up). Ooh, I see. Oh Lord, I love this. You had this in mind for me this morning, didn’t You? Ahh, the timing. The sun is just high enough over the trees for its rays to hit that one gable window, to shoot a ray of warmth directly at this one spot where you drew me to be standing at this very moment. (Beaming)
This is such a perfect, personal gift. I’ve been asking You how to “behold the glory of the Lord.” With my eyes? Oh, how I want to be transformed into Your image—“from one degree of glory to another.” But all I see is my self, my flesh. But, this— this light from the sun, reflected off a window, warming my body? Glorious! A glancing glimpse of Your glory, Lord? So much to ponder. . .
Such a little thing—that warmth sent from above. Can I make anyone understand the joy of that invisible hug from You? Rationalists will explain it away. But Lord, I know that warmth was You.
Why Lord? Why me? Why are you so good to me?
Will I ever reflect Your glory? Am I hoping for too much?
I don’t need an answer. I am content to rest in Your warmth. To accept the gift of Your glorious, invisible, soul-warming Presence. Thank You.
