With just the two of us,
And then . . . we brought our baby home,
And oh my, what a fuss!
He cried it seemed unendingly
For days and nights alike.
How strange that so much sound could come
From such a tiny tyke!
Within two years he’d settled some,
And we’d grown used to calm.
Then crying started up again . . .
His sister came along.
The two of them were full of noise
Until they’d go to sleep.
They seemed like little angels then
When they’d not make a peep.
Our house walls would reverberate
With laughter, shouts, and tears
From childhood through the teen-age days
Till came the grown-up years.
Again we’d blessed quietness
With just the two of us.
And then . . . they both brought babies home,
And oh my, what a fuss!
They’d leave us in our silent house
To sit and rock and rest,
Remembering throughout the years
How God had truly blessed.

I enjoyed this,
thank you.

Lovely poem - one thing I might change is the line,
They seemed like little angels then
When they’d not make a peep.
to
They seemed like little angels then
When they’d make not a peep.
To me that just flows better,
