An air of generous anticipation settled into their lounge room as everyone made their arrivals and opened up their bibles and notepads.
After a brief prayer for God’s guidance, Jeff opened up with a smile, “What have you learned about feet during this week?”
“When I checked out Ephesians 6, which talks about the Christian Armor,” ventured Steve, “It described our feet wearing the readiness of the gospel of peace – which didn’t seem to match how Roman soldiers fought. But then I wondered about how our feet keep us in contact with our world, and how the peace Jesus gives us helps us to be more relaxed. So, we can be at peace wherever we are, and maybe help people around us to find his peace too.”
“True,” chimed in Claire, “for I saw the picture of ‘our feet being made like hinds’ feet in high places,’ that Habakkuk 3:19 mentions. One writer noted how hinds or mountain goats place their back feet exactly where their front feet have been as they climb rocky ground where footholds are hard to find; and compared this with how Christ’s inner peace harmonises our conscious and sub-conscious minds, and secures our balance, our confidence and our integrity.”
“I like that picture of peace on the move instead of being static,” Craig added, “because I thought about how David used his feet to run to Goliath, from 1st Samuel 17. At first he had joined everyone else in running away from that big dude; but then he heard – three times – about what Saul was offering to whoever put him away!”
Met with a sudden chorus of “What was he offered?” he continued.
“Saul was offering his daughter in marriage! And Samuel had anointed David as the next king of Israel. So if he defeated Goliath, and married the princess he would join the royal family – and be in line to succeed Saul! That’s quite apart from his experience with a sling, and how he could bring glory to God for the Israelites who had been listening to Goliath intimidate them for six weeks.
“Maybe he was also thinking about his head – as well as his feet – and how the crown might fit,” he added with a grin.
Melissa was not the most dominant member, but her quiet voice arose above the murmurs as everyone absorbed this new possibility about that well-known story. “I was drawn to reading about Jesus’ last Passover with his disciples, where John 13 records Jesus wearing a towel that he used to dry his disciples’ feet after he had washed them. He was showing us what it is to lead and to serve at the same time.”
As conversation over other verses and comments continued around the room, Jeff received a nod from Sophie that supper was almost ready, and raised his hand to gather everyone’s attention.
“Psalm 110:1 is a prophetic glimpse that God gave David, about this Lordship of Jesus,” he said. “The LORD says to my lord: ‘Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.’” And when we consider how Jesus’ feet were pierced with nails during his crucifixion; from the moment that this prophecy begins to be fulfilled, Satan will be continually reminded of how he has been defeated – for the whole of eternity!
“Feet and De-feat! How about that?”

I think your message s on each part are strong and made me stop and think. You definitely nailed the topic. Although I've seen some of the feet verses in other stories this week, you did a nice job of making the story fresh and interesting. My favorite line was our feet keeping us in contact with the world. I thought that really spoke volumes. Nice job.
