Continues unabated.
Chattering birds, loudest in the morning,
Begin with the dawn
To carry on discussions
About the state of the weather
Till night signals bedtime
With a star-glazed ebony curtain
Drawn across a purple sky.
Then silly owls bandy back and forth
Their constant question “Who?”
Never waiting for an answer.
Squirrels, interrupted at the bird feeder,
Scurry up tall oak trees,
All the while barking angry complaints,
As they climb to the highest branches.
Honeybees rob blooming flowers
Of sweetest essence
With a continual buzzing
About their intentions of thievery.
Spring’s green-leafed trees
Whisper sibilant words
With the wind’s encouragement
While autumn-shriveled leaves
Talk in brittle tones.
Tree frogs discourse in melody,
Proclaiming the soon arrival of spring.
Crickets chirp their comments,
Completely unintelligible,
In an incessant syncopation.
The little stream at yard’s end
Gurgles and burbles endlessly
In bubbly statements.
Nature’s backyard conversations,
Led by creator’s Conductor,
Is a never-ending orchestra of sound.
