Most bitter is skulduggery.
It grows beside chicanery
And other trees of trickery.
These trees are known for their deception,
Not recognized at first perception.
With roots entwined in deep corruption,
There’s danger in their fruits’ consumption.
This fruit is quite accessible
And easily digestible,
But one who gets a belly full
Will find it most regrettable.
It's scented by duplicity
With flavors of hypocrisy,
Deceitfulness, dishonesty—
The aspects, all, of falsity.
And those who of the fruit partake
Become just like a rattlesnake.
As truth and honor they forsake,
There’s desolation in their wake.
Though rotten at the base, the tree
Displays a graceful symmetry,
Quite pleasing for the eye to see,
And therein lies an irony.
There is but found a single cure
For poisoned fruit from tree impure:
The Savior, whose grace can secure
An honesty that will endure.
