Then, here she was in this room with pictures on the walls and lots of pipes and tubes. And now Dad was here, gently stroking her hand. Then he was gone and the angels returned. They had such kind faces and they were wearing white, shiny white. She didn't have to say anything to them. She couldn't. But they just stayed there, hardly moving, making sure that everything was alright.
The two angels had been there right from the first time she had opened her eyes. It was funny how they always came when Mum or Dad weren't there. They seemed to know that she needed someone there, someone to keep watching out, keep her company.
Sometimes, when things were very quiet, they sang to her in a gentle, soft way. Never screechy or growly, but sweetly, and sometimes in two-part harmony, like Mum and Aunty Marg did. Mum always called that two-part harmony.
When the doctors or nurses came the angels stood back, tucking themselves into the corners, keeping out of the way. They watched the nurses putting needles into her arms and taking her temperature. They watched the doctors listening to her insides with their stethoscopes and checking the stitches in her head. They kept an eye on everything and she knew things were going to be alright.
After a while she started staying awake for longer, and she thought and planned for when she could go home. She was going to make pictures of her angels. She would draw them on big sheets of paper and hang them on her bedroom wall. She knew that she wouldn't need their help when she was back home but she didn't want to forget them. Not ever. She knew that God had sent those angels just for her. She would thank him every night.
And that's how she came to have two beautiful angels on her wall.
After she went home from hospital she wasn't allowed go to school for three weeks. When she told Mum about the angels Mum didn't laugh. Instead, she put her hands up in the air and said, “Thank you Lord.”
When Dad came home he had a present for her. It was the best sort of painting paper and a set of the very best pencils and paints. He said, “Go for it, Lily, our special angel. Paint your guardian angels. We'll keep thanking God for looking after you and making you better.”

What an encouraging story you've delivered in a most skillful fashion:)
Thx for sharing!
I liked the way they made space for the hospital staff but still watched.
I like how your story keeps flowing.
