When harsh disappointments taunt,
Missed opportunities haunt,
Or you find yourself in want,
Put on the armor of God.
And onward still press,
Never looking back,
Soldier of the King.
When confusion sends its fog,
And doubt hangs thicker than smog,
You're mired in a murky bog,
Gird yourself, then, with the truth.
And onward still press,
Never looking back,
Soldier of the King.
When under the weight of sin
Fearfully you tremble within,
Overwhelmed in your chagrin,
Then take on his righteousness.
And onward still press,
Never looking back,
Soldier of the King.
When abject betrayal reigns
Bringing you deep-seated pain,
Offer forgiveness unfeigned,
Living the gospel of peace.
And onward still press,
Never looking back,
Soldier of the King.
When Satan begins to sneer,
You feel the prick of his spear,
And you are tempted to fear,
Take up the shield of faith.
And onward still press,
Never looking back,
Soldier of the King.
When the future looks dreary,
The long days leave you weary,
Hope seems but a theory,
Wear salvation's helmet.
And onward still press,
Never looking back,
Soldier of the King.
When temptation bows you low,
To run, you were much too slow,
How to escape you don't know,
Wield the Holy Word of God.
And onward still press,
Never looking back,
Soldier of the King.
When on a darkened pathway
You can't see the light of day,
There, fall to your knees and pray,
Finding new strength in your Lord.
And onward still press,
Never looking back,
Soldier of the King.
When death's hand knocks at your door,
And its call you can't ignore,
In peace, step off Jordan's shore,
Having done all to stand firm.
And onward still press,
Never looking back,
Soldier of the King.
