And our foe’s a cunning fiend
Who hatches out through scheme and plot
A way to captivate each thought,
Quash the voice of Christ’s redeemed.
Our mind’s a constant battlefield
We must always be on guard
Don’t for a single moment yield,
Be strong, alert, hold forth your shield
When those fiery darts bombard.
The war’s against an unseen foe,
Carnal weapons don’t suffice,
The ways of flesh we must forgo
And use the armour God bestows,
Bring each thought in tune with Christ.
The belt of truth around your waist,
Righteousness your breastplate girds,
Your feet well shod with gospel grace,
Salvation’s helmet in its place,
Use God’s weapon— it’s His Word.
Be watchful, pray unceasingly,
Seek the Holy Spirit’s lead,
Though sin advance increasingly
Our God supplies exceedingly
He will meet our every need.
Advance, trust Him, the war is won,
We are on the Victor’s side
And when our final battle’s done
Then face to face we’ll meet the Son
As His spotless cherished Bride.
