I needed forgiveness to settle it all.
My sins were recorded by God's faithful scribe
And naught could erase them; not even a bribe.
My teen years were wasted on worldly pursuits,
Ignoring my parents' deep spiritual roots.
My friends lured me further into an abyss
By thinking their lifestyle was too good to miss.
Pretending to be a saved child of God,
I sang in the choir behind a façade
That I had constructed to try to deceive
The saints who were praying for me to believe.
After one service, while going toward the door
A dear, godly woman who'd been my mentor,
Took me aside and then whispered to me,
"You need the Lord Jesus, for He'll set you free."
I thanked her but then made a hasty retreat.
I knew she had seen through my well-planned deceit.
I wrestled all day with the weight of my sin
As day turned to night, then I finally gave in.
Confessing my guilt, God gave peace to my soul.
"Your sins are forgiven and now you're made whole.
Your record is clear and your soul is set free
I've buried your sins 'neath the world's deepest sea."
I shared my conversion with all of my friends
And when I was prompted, made countless amends.
But as was expected, when someone's reborn,
The forces of hell will attack and will scorn.
"You'll fall by the wayside," the devil would chide,
"You're crazy to think Christ will make you His bride.
Your sins were too many; they'll soon reappear
And God's punishment will be long and severe."
I stood straight and tall with my feet wide apart.
"I command you, through Jesus, to swiftly depart.
God hid all my sins in the world's deepest sea;
They're too deeply hidden for recovery."
Each day I present my life's tablet to God.
Sometimes it's clean but more often it's flawed.
I ask His forgiveness; my sins disappear.
Hallelujah to Jesus! My record is clear.
