Wondering where my brush is at.
Sleepy eyes, stubbed big toe,
And where did my red t-shirt go?
Coffee perking, half awake,
Gotta go or I’ll be late.
Call a cab, the engine’s dead.
Should’ve stayed asleep in bed.
No time to kneel, no time to pray,
Come on let’s go, haven’t got all day.
Sorry, Lord, I’ll catch you later,
My plans today are simply greater.
Angry boss, stressed out team,
Paper jammed in my machine.
Time is ticking, ticking by,
Hurry up, clocks never lie.
Break time comes for me at last,
Too much to do, eat lightning fast.
Indigestion in waves it comes,
Mental note to carry Tums.
No time to kneel, no time to pray,
Come on let’s go, haven’t got all day.
Sorry, Lord, I’ll catch you later,
My plans for me are simply greater.
Reports are done and printed out,
Stress fed by relentless doubt.
Beads of sweat, hard to breathe,
Please tell me it’s time to leave.
Finally clocking out arrives,
Small hand on the number five.
Ready now to hit the gym,
I’m in this game of health to win.
No time to kneel, no time to pray,
Come on let’s go, haven’t got all day.
Sorry, Lord, I’ll catch you later,
My plans tonight are simply greater.
What comes next? I check my phone,
Yellow cab please take me home.
Have to prep, it’s our first date,
Must impress - can’t be late.
Now to sit and study hard,
Tomorrow’s test on bright cue cards.
Phone calls in, texting back,
Caffeine fills in all the gaps.
No time to kneel, no time to pray,
Come on let’s go, haven’t got all day.
Sorry, Lord, I’ll catch you later,
My plans all day were simply greater.
Clean up the house, must be done,
Clock strikes two - the morning one.
Mattress calling, desperate now,
I make it there, I don’t know how.
Fast asleep, the dreams roll in,
Toss and turn, my soul worn thin.
Forgotten in the midst of life,
Something missing, creating strife.
No time to kneel, no time to pray,
Come on let’s go, haven’t got all day.
Sorry, Lord, I’ll catch you later,
My plans to sleep are simply greater.
I’d checked it all off of my list,
Nothing misplaced. Nothing missed.
Time to sleep, ignore the dread,
I’m sure it’s all just in my head.
Dawn arrives, feet hit the ground,
Off and running, achievement bound.
Do it all the same once more,
Never changing, the same encore.
No time to kneel, no time to pray,
Come on let’s go, haven’t got all day.
Sorry, Lord, I’ll catch you later,
My plans today are simply greater.
