Topic: BLESSED (03/07/19)
Collective Thoughts Overall:

Calls from friends in midweek crisis mode talking about family feuding
Each one proclaiming to have the worst of woes and annoying family members and neighbors
The thing is they’re not the only ones going through things or living through hardships

Fighting and grudge-holding and name calling is stressful and inwardly painful
Especially to those who are the ears and counselors or mediators of said groups
Trying to deal with strife-makers and gossip-mongers isn’t easy

One could say call and just say hello the rest will just happen naturally
But they’ll find ten or more reasons why they cannot or will not do so and pride will rear its ugly head
In fact it will become a fastidiously long drawn out scenario as to why they cannot or will not do so

Being the ears can be frustrating to say the least—but it takes wisdom and strength to speak up
There is a time for silence and a time for a voice of reason
It is all about Him and His guidance and loving Him—He who provides the wisdom and strength

Cassandra Individual # 1:

I can’t call my brother he’s the one that started the whole thing and I refuse to be the one to call him
After all I’m innocent and all of the things he’s done over the years like not coming to my birthday party
He has always been the black sheep of the family—he has tons of money he could’ve sent something
And not showing up for my husband’s birthday party—I mean who the heck does he think he is anyhow?


My response:

Your Big brother
He’s all alone has no spouse no children and lives 400 miles away—did you ever think about the trip?
Perhaps you should remember that he was at your side when you were deathly ill
He was with you when you went through your first heartbreak when you were stood up for your prom
He has been there for your children whenever they want him—just drop your sinful pride and call him
I promise you that it’ll be worth it—Make peace with your brother before it’s too late Cassandra

Jean - Individual #2:


Pamela is a piece of work I can’t get over her gall
Can you believe she actually stole my idea at work and got the promotion?
She went out of her way to get there early before me or the boss and got her foot in the door
Now she’s got the promotion and I’m out of a corner office and a big pay increase
Geez what a snake in the grass! She has apologized and said it’s not what I think happened
Now she expects mercy and Forgiveness?


My Response:


Mercy and forgiveness—doesn’t that sound familiar Jean?
I recall about five years back when you were on the other side of the fence
In fact Pamela forgave you for what I personally feel is a much bigger matter overall
You broke up her marriage—sure they were on rocky ground and he was a cheat anyhow
But you did cross the barrier at the time and Pamela could have fired you but she didn’t
Instead what did she do? She forgave you.

Louise- Individual # 3:

She had seven guys over this week. I’m moving out of this neighborhood!
I don’t say hello to her when I see her outside – in fact she had the nerve to try to speak with me
Can you imagine that? I see women coming in and out too
All I ever see is action going in and out in that house—men and women
And, they stay for a little while and then they leave— I think she’s a high paid call girl


My Response:

Louise I know one of the men who has been to see your neighbor
Doing the right thing sometimes involves going ten extra steps
Sometimes things aren’t what they seem and chatting a little would have brought you peace
She works from home as a career consultant and obviously very good at what she does
My friend Bill got a job one week after a consultation with your neighbor

This is a great fresh take on the topic. I think everyone needs to vent now and again, but also need to see the difference between venting and whining. Nice job.

It does take wisdom and strength to speak out, bringing gentle correction where it is needed. 'but a word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.' (Prov 25:11). Congratulations on showing how to bringing blessed words to others when we find ourselves faced with the dysfunction that words can cause.
