Yellow eye shine
Aloof and
Solitine
A Barn Cat
No matter
Brick or mortar
Metal or cedar
All sheds require
Barn Cats
But remember
They are not tender
But wild, spitfire
Claws and teeth
Are Barn Cats
I tried to tame one
A tiny windstorm
Grey tabby terror
savage barbaric
Barn Cat
A week it lasted
in a prison of plastic
Close to my oven
But there was no lovin’
That Barn Cat
Despite my cooing
and meaty wooing
Spit and howling
my only answer from
That Barn Cat
So I released her
one day in the winter
howling just like her
Let the horses have
The Barn Cat
I never saw her
after I freed her
Yet food disappeared
Undomesticated fierce
Barn Cat
I pouted and fumed
What else could I do
To win the affection
Of such a creation
This Barn Cat
Then I thought of
God’s unfailing love
Waiting for me to come
So often I’m like
This Barn Cat
I bowed my heart
breathed in a fresh start
Thanked Him for Grace
Asked for His Peace
Over Barn Cat
