You couldn’t ask me why I kneeled
These long long years in prayer,
You couldn’t kneel beside me
And in my pleading share,
You couldn’t laugh and jump and shout
With children full of glee
Or whisper to your mother
As you sat upon her knee.
You still can’t speak,
You can’t convey,
All I am sure you long to say
And I cannot explain to you
Where we are going today.
My son,
Take now my outstretched hand,
Press with me through this throng,
Though inward voices call you back,
They who have bound you long.
My son, our need is oh so great,
My anguish, and your desperate state,
We must make haste,
We cannot wait,
My son,
This man is Jesus.
My son
He spoke, and His command
Of power, authority
Was all that I had longed for,
And I knew implicitly
That though your lifeless form lay still
And others called ‘He’s dead’,
I fully gave myself to Him
And trusted all He said.
My son, do you remember
How he took you by the hand,
Restored and healed, delivered,
He enabled you to stand.
My son,
You couldn’t ask me why I kneeled
Those long long years in prayer,
But now you kneel beside me,
And God’s greatness we declare.
We call to Him with heart and voice
With all our thanks we cry Rejoice.
