ADD TO MY FAVORITES
frazzled, fearful, with anger churning
Too much is wrong, what can I do
In new directions, should I be turning
In need of pause from ugliness
that sucks life from my tired soul
I plan a respite from world events
Peace of mind--that’s my hope, my goal
Arranging from my restless bed
an escape from headlines morose
Thoughts tease--a cabin in the pines
where mountains greet their starry hosts
Awakened by a moonlight beam
peeking in like a concerned mom
I’d fallen asleep to whispering pines
chirping crickets and frogs at the pond
Night’s curtain will not expose the dawn
‘til the skirt of sunshine tickles the earth
Refreshed from hours undisturbed--
a gift granted, only God knows its worth
Balmy breezes brush softly on my cheek
a distant hoot delights my ear
With pleasure I spy heaven’s embrace
and feel a holy presence near
Filling my lungs with mountain air
clear headed I traipse through the dew
Misty fog rises from the glassy pond
and I ask, “God, what should I do?
I cannot go on reporting such things
that strangle my heart in disgust"
He answered in calming authority
“I’m in charge--in Me put your trust.”
I walked further on, then came to a bridge
where laughter spilled over creek’s hem
A squirrel scurried the rough planked span
then paused till I chased after him
Just yards up the wandering trail
a café glowed with welcoming cheer
Hospitality was served in generous amounts
bringing tea, Madge said “Glad you’re here.”
Her voice was soft like pillowed cotton
while explaining the doors may soon close
“My husband is gone--just can’t go it alone
Would you be wanting work?” she supposed
“I’m not really open, just getting things started
before the locals and campers stop by”
Inquiring again “Are you seeking a job”
while a tear trickled slow from her eye
That sweet little lady tugged at my heart
So in haste answered, “Maybe I am”
“Then up on your feet, there’s eggs to beat
and muffins to plate with my jams"
She taught me the ropes while raising my hopes
for living a life more fulfilling
Her doors never closed, for her offer I chose
and bought the café with God’s willing
Now peace fills my days, I give God my praise
while serving others and learning their stories
And my hubby, Rick was my Father’s pick
We’re having twins and we give God the glory!
