You may know me as the guy who sent you that email with the exciting news that you had been chosen out of millions upon millions of people to inherit my large estate worth seven or so million dollars. All you had to do was send me a few hundred bucks for the “Processing Fee.”
You fell for that one, remember? You sent the money with dreams of becoming a multimillionaire overnight, and never heard from me again. Loser!
Or you may know me as the guy that called you on the phone saying your credit card had accidentally been canceled out, but you could fix that right away. All you had to do was give me your personal credit card account number and your PIN number. Oh, and that little three digit number on the back of your card. You just assumed I was for real, until you got your credit card bill. What a piece of cake that was!
Maybe you know me as that fast talking guy in the homemade video that suckered you into buying into my “Work at Home” scheme. Make hundreds of dollars a day! All you had to do was send me what little money you had. I sent you a worthless, complicated scheme that you could sell to other down-on-their-luck, desperate people like yourself.
This is just to name of few of my cons. Regardless of how you may know me, you know I'm smart. I do these things quickly and quietly, using phony names with temporary phone numbers no one can trace. I move around a lot, so the cops never catch up with me. I have no conscience, so I sleep well at night in the finest hotels you afford me.
I do have to admit that sometimes late at night, I worry about getting caught. My mother was a fine Christian woman who always told me, “You reap what you sow, John.”
My mother's a good woman, and I love her, but she’s got it all wrong. She worked hard all her life, and all she ever got was me.
Lately that warning has been nagging at me, though. If I reap what I have sown, someone will find me out for sure. I really should get an honest job and actually earn my money, but it's so much easier this way. Besides, I’m a Pro, and I'm too good at my job to get caught, aren't I? Aren’t I?
Hello again, my name John Smith. Other people call me Con, because I’m an incarcerated, convicted felon.

Clever, original and completely on topic with a unique twist.
Well done.
God bless~
It kind of reminded me of how Satan works. Making something look so appealing, but when you buy into the lie it's pretty devastating.
Satan is the ultimate professional con-artist for sure.
Good job.
the only this I spotted was that the last line would read better as "My name is..."
An awesome entry.
One thing about con-men - they know how to fall on other people's feet. And I often smile when victims are interviewed, for they always say, "Ohh, he was good!!!" They never say, "Ohh, I was greedy!"
I reckon your creative approach will be well-rewarded.
By way of red ink: Is the fourth paragraph missing a comma after 'or'? 'Or you may know me...'
Well written. I wanted to go this direction with the topic but didn't end up doing it. Glad you did!
Glad you concluded with John's con sequences.
You did a great job of presenting the various ploys of the con-man. Enjoyable and right on topic. I had a similar idea, but did not enter it, about 2 characters, a professional person and a con-man. I'm glad you did this one. I hope it does well, it should! Blessings to you and your work!
