Thankfully Abigail received the news of her husband’s behaviour by one of the servants. “ Now think it over and see what you can do, because disaster is hanging over our master and his whole household. He is such a wicked man that no one can talk to him.”{1 Samuel 25:17 NIV}.
Her reaction was quick. Unknown to her husband she amassed food and took it quickly to David. She sought to intercede so that her husband would not be killed. Her efforts were successful. Her words were wise ones. “Please pay no attention, my lord, to that wicked man Nabal. He is just like his name—his name means Fool, and folly goes with him”
{1 Samuel 25:25 NIV}.
Samuel wrote that he was surly and mean and his wife described him as a fool. The day after the incident with David, his wife told him how she had saved his life. He had a heart attack and was dead ten days later. Did Nabal reap what he had sewn? Nabal sewed unkindness and reaped an untimely death.
Abigail sewed kindness and wisdom and reaped a royal proposal. David sent word asking her to become his wife. His servants went to Carmel and said to Abigail, “David has sent us to you to take you to become his wife.”{1 Samuel 25:39-40 NIV}.
