He was content with life’s simple things
Mother’s milk, a smile, or endearing hug
Just loved and protected by angel’s wings
Sand in life’s hour glass slowly drops
As a teen’s worldly priorities begin
Latest hair, designer clothes, and a car
All a must to be viewed “as cool” and fit in
As grains of sand fall, his twenties roar in
The flesh demands all things new and fun
Flashy cars and the latest hi-tech toys
All used to fuel the desires of the Outer one
He stays ravenous for many years to come
Searching for the instant high to feel great
All to feed the void that only God can fill
While the Inner one stays dormant, and just waits
The soul knows that God will light the fire
Then the focus will shift from out to in
All in His time, it must be done
To connect to Our Father from within
The sand in life’s hour glass is now half full
Our Lord touches his heart and says “It’s time”
The Outer one’s shell begins to crack and age
As the Inner one’s strength begins to climb
God’s plan becomes the focus for many years
His Word, His House, and His Holy Way
The Inner one’s priorities abound now
His time to shine; his time to pray
Only the final grains of sand remain
As the Outer One fades, till he’s no more
Behold, the Inner one is released and set free
Alas, his soul’s eternal wings begin to soar

inner man.
