In early Biblical history, the Tower of Babel was built by the descendants of Noah. The goal was an attempt to reach heaven, thus people of one language failed and became babblers.. {Genesis 11:1-9]. God intervened and the result was many different languages spoken among different tribes and peoples, leading to much confusion and distrust and tribalism’. Towers have good and bad uses. History tells us about the Tower of London which housed prisoners nine hundred years ago and where some queens and kings were executed. World travel reveals many architectural monuments that we may call towers. Tall and strong, such grandeur and size reflect the brilliance of civil engineers and men. Many with arches made with special concrete that was copied by the Taj Mahal in India, and the US capital in Washington.
Towers like Westminister Abbey, are called cathedrals. They have a magnificent inner beauty that draws our eyes upwards to the brilliantly created stained glass windows and arches. The windows not only reflex light, but the creators tell us stories about faith in God and show us images of Biblical times.

Negatively, in our modern day, there are residential towers called high-rise apartments or tower blocks. These towers can be found in inner cities, used also for office buildings and hotels. In some poorer nations, they may become ‘slums in the skies’. Unfortunately seeming to harbour and create social isolation and desperation..
At the human level, hearts may become self-created towers, birthed by pompous pride, egotism and destructive ideals. The result is that those people seem to think they are better than others. Seeing themselves as perfect, they construct mental towers in whch they think they are the top and others are beneath them and act in that manner.
Thankfully and ideally, towering above them all is the only perfect Man. His Name is Jesus and He is God, The Perfect Son. He is humble. His tower was, and is, Love. Love which gives, and gives to mankind. He even died for mankind; we have been redeemed because he gave His life for us.
Today and every day since, He is drawing us up to Himself when He says 'Come up higher!' He is not unreachable!! ‘God raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus’ {Ephesians 2:6}.
