Bob hurried home to tell his father of his excellent athletic abilities. He could hardly wait to hear a positive response for once.
“Swimming is not a sport”, growled his father as he continued to read his newspaper.
That's when Bob gave up dreaming and turned to alcohol and drugs to ease the pain of rejection. He never did join the swimming team. He started to believe the words his father told him, giving up trying to amount to anything.
Some years later, however, God got a hold of him and he began to dream again. He dreamed of being a mechanic and building engines. So, he went to a school for automotive. He dreamed of getting married, and that's when he met and married me. Then he dreamed of owning his own business, so we wrote a business plan and made it happen.
Now it seems the dreams never stop for him. There is always something new he has to try. First thing he tried was powdercoating auto parts. When that went well, he began powdercoating metal signs, flags, and wall hangings. He is also doing things with resin that no one else has tried before and is making beautiful pictures.
Best of all, his dreams turned to helping others fulfill their dreams. He bought tool sets for other young boys that wanted to learn mechanics. He hired a couple young men and taught them everything he knew. He seeks out young people and ask them what their dreams are, then encourages them to go for it.
Did all his dreams come true? No. But that didn't stop him from trying new things. Only those who never give up will accomplish what they set out to do. Don't let the world hold you back.
You will never amount to anything if you don't try. If you do try, no telling what you and the Lord can do together. Bob always says that the Lord is a creator, and if we are made in the image of God, we are also creators. Go ahead, dream a little, or a lot; create an image in your mind and make a dream come true.
