“All right!” Roger hooted. “This is going to be amazing.”
As the lead singer of Light Warriors, Taavi had been doing all he could for the past couple of years to get the band an opportunity to play at the Downswood Metalfest. They had been quite successful throughout Canada and the United States but hadn't yet shared the stage with the bigger names in metal, especially those from Europe. It was hard for a Christian metal band to break into the scene, but now it was happening for them.
At church the next morning, Taavi told his friends the great news.
“You don't want to do that,” Sam said, his eyebrows furrowed.
Taken aback, Taavi said, “And why not?”
“Because...” Sam said as he sat down. “Everyone knows those metal bands are satanic.”
Taavi smiled, “But that is what makes this so amazing.” Combing his fingers through his long brown hair, he could barely stand still. “We have the opportunity to witness to the audience with our music about Jesus, and hopefully they will come away from the concert wanting to know more.”
“A light in the darkness,” Sam said, nodding.
On the night of the festival, as the Light Warriors stood in front of the crowd prepared to perform their last song, Taavi felt the Holy Spirit leading him to pray. “Lord Jesus Christ, we pray your blessing over everyone here. May you touch the people your Father is calling, and we ask that you make yourself real to them.” He raised his face to the sky, “Amen.”
When Taavi and the rest of the band reached the back of the stage, they each grabbed a bottle of water from the selection of drinks that had been placed on a table for the musicians. They stood talking, as the members of Cavern of Hate, the band that was next to perform approached them.
“So, you guys think you can bring your unblack metal to our stage, huh?” The drummer said gruffly.
“I don't think the stage belongs to anyone in particular. It's there for all musicians to use,” Taavi said while looking into the guy's dark, glaring eyes.
“This is a METAL festival... not a Christian get together. Keep your Jesus to yourself,” he said as he threw a beer can into the garbage pail.
Taavi watched them walk towards the stage, then he and the rest of the Light Warriors went out and stood to the side to watch their performance. He was shocked to see an altar to Satan at the front of the stage, and as the lead singer began to invoke Satan, Taavi motioned to his friends that he was leaving.
“Perhaps Sam was right,” he said. “It might not have been the best thing being mixed up with these bands.”
A teenager named Jake walked up to them. “I just want to say that your prayer at the end of your performance meant a lot to me. Thank you.”
“You're welcome,” Taavi replied.
“I came here to see Cavern of Hate, and have been getting into Satanism, not only because of music but—anyway,” he took a deep breath. “When you were singing, something touched my heart, and then when you prayed—what I am trying to say is, I want to know Jesus.”
“That's great,” Taavi said.
“I never thought I would hear a metal band sing about Jesus.”
Taavi smiled, “Well, there is a first time for everything.”
Jake shifted his weight from one foot to another, as he looked down at the ground. “Yeah... um...”
Taavi could see that he was nervous and so he proceeded to tell him about Jesus. When Jake said he wanted to follow him from now on, Taavi lead him in a prayer to accept Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour.
Tears fell down Jake's cheeks, and Taavi watched as he removed the pentagram from his neck and threw it in the dumpster. “I feel free,” he said.
“You ARE free.”
As Jake walked away, he turned, “I am so glad you played tonight.”

Very well written. I could feel his excitement and disappointment. Yet it was all worth it when one life was saved. God bless! LaVonne
I like Christian rock but am not so much a fan of metal. I do think we need a mixture of venues to witness, however.
