the true expression, my heart hears
displaying the true value of our love,
precious gift given by the Lord above
mourning inspiring heartfelt care
held secure in authentic prayer,
connecting hearts in more than word
for love has become a living verb.
I am so thankful for the tears I cry
for they allow my broken heart to sigh,
compassion’s breath compels my soul to kneel
giving the Father’s love a chance to heal
grief for my failures, sends me to His grace
exposing my pride, so love can replace
my shadows of doubt with the call of His hope
leaning on mercy, as my heart learns to cope.
I am so thankful for the Saviour’s tears
guiding His kindness throughout all my years,
feeling all my heartache deep in His soul
informing His strength how best to console
Jesus salty tears nourishing beauty
enhancing love, to much more than duty,
weeping for us when we fail to see
that through His death, we’re actually free!
Note: A friend was asked to pray at a funeral that was a result of a suicide. He cried all the way through his prayer. The Dad of the man who died came up after the service and gave him a hug and said “thank you for your tears”. Sometimes words are not enough. The idea for this poem came from what the man said – reflecting on the precious gift God has given us in His tears and the ability He has given us to cry to allow His healing to commence.
