Reflects the shadow of a blackened sun;
The rivers lead down to a cheerless soul
Where joy is dark and life is cold.
The fetters which bound Soul to Sun
Strained and made the rivers run;
For night had come,
And too, the clouds,
Where light is gone,
And death is loud.
The soul that sprung these twin rivers choked
And sealed its mouth from great laugh or small joke.
“The sun is gone!” This fact only remained;
The sun had died, or left, emplaned.
This is why there was no small joke,
Why Soul only dared to choke.
Yes, night had come,
And too, the clouds,
Where light is gone,
And death is loud.
Hast thou never seen a love like this grief?
Where rivers rise without a moment’s relief?
Where heartstrings stretch because of boundless care,
And to honor loss, mirth kept elsewhere?
For loss have you denied relief,
Hid inside the pit of grief?
That is the night,
And too, the clouds,
Where light is gone,
And death is-
But wait!
Honor is great,
Honor is grand,
But what is that
Shining o’er land?
A thin aureate ribbon
Like my dear sun had once given-
What! Another dawn? Another sun?
A locum to dry twin rivers that run?
Yes, the sting of mixed hours is sharp,
But will thou also die by denying thy heart?
Honor is great,
Honor is grand,
But what is that,
Shining o’er land?
Through night a will is fulfilled.
Perhaps through bad, good God rebuilt;
Through shadows a plan was achieved.
The gladness that comes from the dark are these:
God’s care and love are bigger than the suns we see,
And His plan is filled with both, for thou and for me.
There is the night.
Honor is great.
And too, the clouds.
Honor is grand.
There light is gone;
But what is that-
And, death is loud-
Shining o’er land?
