When you look at me, what do you see?
A wavering smile.
Glistening, tear-filled eyes.
Sadness in my demeanor.
When you listen to me, what do you hear?
A soft, shaky voice.
Sniffles that won’t be silenced.
Me asking God, why, oh why?
When you touch me, what do you feel?
The wetness of my cheeks.
Hands as cold as ice.
A feverish brow.
Signs of sorrow come to the surface and cannot be hidden.
Be patient.
I do not want your pity; I only want understanding.
These outward expressions of grief tell my story of love.
I wear them not with selfish pride but because I LOVED and was LOVED.
Memories replay over and over in my mind’s eye—the days
When life was easy,
And taken for granted.
The days when laughter filled the air,
And all was good.
So yes, I have tears, and I have cried,
However, I can rejoice
Because I cling to the Lord’s promise of being reunited
With my loved ones in Heaven.
There will be no more death to mourn. No more sorrow. No more pain.
God will wipe away our tears, and the former things shall pass away.
“Therefore you will now have sorrow, but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.”
John 16:22 (NKJV)
