Be Lifted Up

Beauty for ashes and oil of joy for mourning, do you weep?
For the spirit of heaviness the garment of praise, you can keep.
Proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, let God have vengeance.
Let the Lord comfort all that mourn and just do your repentance.

As with a remnant in the past let the virgin dance and rejoice.
Men young and old together, God turning their mourning by choice.
Turning that mourning to joy, they will rejoice from their sorrow.
The Lord comforts all mourners, they’ll have peace come tomorrow.

For it is written, comfort for all that mourn they are blessed.
Old and New Testament confirm comfort so be not distressed.
A sign of the end times the Son of man coming in the clouds.
And all the tribes of earth will mourn, alone or in crowds.

For the Son of man will come with great power and glory.
But here I hesitate but that is not the end of this our story.
Woe to those that are full now, a feeling they will not keep.
Woe to those that laugh now for they shall mourn and weep.

Whether one has a calamity and from highest to lowest mourn.
As the Ninevites in Jonah where even the animals avoided scorn.
Or it’s penitential like a tribe repenting to God for their sin.
Whether through laws and rules or pure regret, repent and win.

Let your laughter be turned to mourning, humility is a friend.
Let your joy be turned to heaviness and know it’s not the end.
Humility cures worldliness, humble yourself before the Lord.
Be afflicted and weep and mourn and be lifted up by the Word.
