Topic: SWIM (07/21/22)
When Molly was four months pregnant, her baby died. She had uremic poison, so they couldn't operate on her to take the baby. The doctor told her husband that there was nothing they could do because the infection had damaged her kidney.

Molly knew she was dying, so she sent for Brother William, her former Pastor. She had accepted the Lord as her Savior when she was a teenager, but the Christian life no longer attracted her as time passed. Her new friends from the neighborhood influence turned her away from God. She met Ted, fell in love with him, and married.

Molly told her mother she was not ready to die, that her life was a mess.

As soon as Pastor William got the message, he went to see her. She was then under an oxygen tent.

"You do remember me, Molly." Pastor William said.
"Sure Brother William, I remember you."
"Do you understand how sick you are?"
"I do," she said. "That is why I sent for you."

Brother William asked her how her relationship with the Lord was.
She declared, "I'm not ready to die." In anguish, she cried, "I've… not been living for the Lord."

They began to pray. The husband and mother started to cry. Molly cried out to the Lord, repented, and promised God that she would serve Him if He gave her a second chance. Brother William left them praying and went out of the hospital.

The following day, she went for the test to see how the uremic condition had advanced. But it was all gone. The doctors and nurses were astonished; every bit of the uremic poison had left her body. They had no choice but to plan the operation to take the baby.

And the next day they tested her about three times, and everything was perfect. They took her from under the oxygen tent. Pastor William was there. Her husband gave his heart to the Lord and promised that he and his wife would walk the straight and narrow road together.

About midnight, Molly called out to her mother. Her mother was in the room with her, sleeping.
"Mother!"
“Yes, honey, what do you want?"
Molly said, "You know, I'm so happy!"
"I'm so glad of you being happy." The mother drowsily replied.
"I'm at peace with God. Oh, how fine it is!"

A few minutes after, she cried out to her mother again.
"Mother."
"Yes?"
"I'm going home."
"I know you are honey. The doctor will take the baby tomorrow and then about a day or two when your incisions heal you go home and be happy again with your husband and little children and be a Christian and live for God."
Molly said, "Mother I mean I am going to my heavenly home."
"Sure, at the end of the journey."
Molly said, "This is the end of the journey."
Her mother opened her eyes and watched her.
"What is the matter, Molly?"
"This is the end of my journey, Mother. Within a few minutes, I'll be gone."

Her mother thought she was getting delirious, so she called out to the nurse. The nurse came in and took her respiration, and everything was normal. But within five minutes, Molly was dead.

The family was devastated, crushed by her unexpected death. Her mother told the family what she told her before she died, which somewhat comforted them, but they still couldn't understand why.

They sent the message to Pastor William, who was out of the city then. When he got the news, he was utterly dumbfounded and didn't know what to tell the family.

Then one day, he heard from heaven.

He went to the mother's house and said, "I want to ask you a question."
"Sure, Brother William," she replied.
"Is it true that Molly almost drowned last year?"
"Yes, the family had an outing. She got there and stepped in some sand and slipped over into the creek. She couldn't swim so she was strangling in the water. They noticed her coming up and going down and they ran to her rescue and brought her out of the water. She almost died. They used artificial respiration and put on pressure, and they got a machine and pump the water out of her."
Brother William said, "That was her time to go, but she was not ready; she had backslid. But God, rich in mercy, gave her a second chance."

This is an interesting story. I just said to my FIL this week God doesn't take you one second before your time.

This story has a lot of potential along with an important message. However, it is filled with telling, not showing, which always engages the reader's attention better. The dialog is great, well-placed and well-used. Do try to avoid such clichés such as, "the straight and narrow." It's pure "Christianese" that an outsider would not comprehend. Loved the surprise ending. Also, may need to avoid the word, "backslid" or find another "non-Christianese" word of explanation to reach a larger audience. Blessings and keep scribbling!"
