Thirty years have gone by -- but Steve will still at times gaze at Mary with that same look of love. Mary was handpicked by God to be Steve's bride and he was handpicked to be her husband.
Walking down the aisle, Mary had no idea of what she was walking into.
Health challenges that no one could have anticipated. But she did not have to go it alone, with Steve steadfastly holding her hand, being her support
Three daughters, one of whom has become a wife and mother with her own special challenges where she has used the example of her parents to stand hand in hand with her husband as they weather their trials.
The pristine white of Mary's wedding gown is like the white sparkling snow of Christmas morning. What will that snow become? The platform for laughter-filled sledding, snow angels, snow forts and good natured snowball fights? Or traffic jams, onerous shoveling and ugly slush.
What would the sparkling promise of that white wedding dress become?
The white wedding dress has long been put away into storage. But the lovelight kindled in Mary and Steve's eyes still glows. And their marriage also glows -- a lighthouse shining God's beacon of hope as a strong godly marriage surrounded by so many shipwrecks.
I've never married so I've never had the moment of standing at the altar in a white dress as my groom gazes as me in adoration. But someday, my groom Jesus will come to get me and give me a white robe of righteousness and envelope me in his love. Until then, I too will do my best to shine God's beacon of hope in a world filled with shipwrecks.
