Topic: CLUMSY (04/11/19)
“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.” (1 Cor 1:27, KJV)

I’ve never been one to call attention to myself. I rarely raise my hands in church, hardly pray aloud in front of others, and even stop singing when I feel someone may be listening. I’m the epitome of a church mouse in that arena.

Fifteen years ago, hunger for the Lord and all He offered filled me to the brim. I prayed for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, but after months with no answer I was beginning to lose heart. I’ll admit I was also afraid. I’d seen others filled with the Spirit and it didn’t look pretty. They were usually flopping around like a fish out of water. It looked foolish, but I wanted more of God so strongly I was willing to look like a drunk on rollerskates if it meant I’d be filled. So, I went to a Monday night prayer group.

There were several people receiving prayer that night in a tiny room. There were already several people on the floor, which explained the lack of chairs in the room, and several others were laughing uncontrollably or crying.

An elderly woman and two younger women surrounded me. I told them what I came for and they began to pray. The elderly woman stood in front of me and spoke five words, “Breathe the breath of God.” Immediately, a cool wind blew into my chest and I fell backward to the floor.

The Holy Spirit is full of grace, yet His work can look ungraceful; even clumsy. But, the Lord knows what He’s doing; He’s always deliberate. The day I received the infilling of the Holy Spirit I looked ungraceful, but for once it didn’t matter. God used the so-called foolish things of the world to confound my pseudo-wisdom and bring me low. Now when I see an ungraceful moment in the Spirit I can only say, “Praise the Lord.”

You did an awesome job of pulling me in. I liked the internal conflict and was eager to see it's resolution. For me personally, I think you told or repeated your message at the end, but you didn't need to spell out the moral of the story because you did such an outstanding job of showing it with your great word choice. I think this is spot on topic and has a great clear message. If you haven't ever submitted a piece to FW daily devotions, this would be a great one to submit. The devotions go to numerous websites and thousands of emails each day. Your piece needs to be read by as many people as possible.
