To Be Honest

To be honest is a very common expression that is so horribly misleading. You might call it a pet peeve. Over the years, I have used this phrase and was quite serious about it. I have heard it for years and years and have come to the frame of mind that it is quite misleading and if not that, very bogus.
To use the phrase, “to be honest,” literally means that you have been lying the rest of the time and what you have ever said in the past was most likely a falsehood and not reliable as honest facts. Now, how ‘honest’ can that honest be?
In courts, you are required to place your hand on the Bible and swear to tell the truth, which really means that what you intend to do is perjure yourself. That may be a stretch, but when you stop to think about it, a liar will lie even if he swears to tell the truth. An honest person will tell the truth whether he or she places their hand on the Bible or not.
Honesty is a trait that is learned, honed, refined and guarded carefully. By nature, even though most of us are taught from birth to be honest, we are liars. It is a horrible state that we start lying. Some are very skilled, and some are, well, not so much. Some practice their falsehood ways diligently and grow strong in their delivery, making their lies very believable. Some just try to keep their nose above water.
To be honest, takes a lifetime of diligent effort, even when a little white lie could spare a lot of embarrassment. To be honest, and I mean totally honest is a trait of a person who has a moral compass and an incredible faith in God.
Satan is there, ready and waiting, to coerce someone to tell a little fib. He does a very effective job convincing people that lying is the best way to avoid trouble. But we need to remember, Satan is a liar. He is the father of lies and a destroyer of mankind.
Whereas, Jesus is the very epitome of honesty. A simple denial of the truth could have spared Him a horrible death. It could have prolonged the teaching of his disciples to be men of great faith, but at that point, he could only have taught a lie. You see, to lie once would make Him a liar, a deceiver and no different than Satan. Jesus and the Father are one. Jesus for a fact is Lord and Savior and in Him are no false attributes.
To be honest, anything short or honest is not acceptable in a perfect and holy Heaven. Think about it.

Good job honing in on and developing your topic. It might have been fun to see some more examples of the use of the phrase thrown in.

Another note: putting spaces between your paragraphs makes it easier to read.
