I am so confused. I made a list of New Year Resolutions and it’s gone missing. Now if I could just find my glasses, I may be able to find it amongst the piles of junk mail in my to-do drawer.
Granted a lot of it can be thrown out and remain unread, but there are some really good items amongst the post that need some action. Have you noticed the number of begging letters that arrive once you have been moved enough to make a donation? It’s becoming a stress situation when I see the post arriving. By the time I have sorted the personal from the forms to be filled in, and no doubt requiring further action, and then the Charity requests, Mission news, and general advertisements, my stress and confusion levels are rising.
I guess it is a bit early for a serotonin boost with a small piece of chocolate, but then, it may help my recalcitrant mind to concentrate.
There are so many needy children that one can stick a needle on a map and find there will be innumerable needs to be met in that particular spot. Animals in danger of extinction or abuse are crying out for help. There are Missions needing prayer but also financial assistance, all of which confront my emotional empathy. What about the unreached who need the Gospel so urgently, at home as well as abroad?
Then there are people who are living under threat; persecuted for their belief, or denied free speech, so that as each challenge becomes more heavy on my heart I find that the time spent in reading and prayer precludes any more action before at least one job of the day can be completed. It is tempting to forego the cleaning of the bathroom, and read one more missive, but then who will make the lunch.
So, on with the daily chores, but now the decision must be made, which is the most important? I think I’ll put the mail in the ‘to do’ drawer, and leave it for later.
When is later?
I am sure that one of the New Year resolutions was to sit down and complete reading the unread mail, but the question is, how, when and why? Most of it will be out of date now anyway.
It seems so disrespectful to be catching up on prayer requests in the loo, but those are moments of opportunity to be closely guarded. Shall I take some of the unread there?
And as I gather a handful of papers, I find my missing list. There is just no time to read it through now though because there is too much to do. Now, where do I start?

I noticed one sentence that may need some tweaking: Have you noticed the number of begging letters. It sounded like the letters were begging instead of letters asking for money.
The story made me stop and think about my priorities which is a good thing.
I sensed a lot of telling, rather than showing.
Your first paragraph, for example:
I am so confused. I made a list of New Year Resolutions and it’s gone missing. Now if I could just find my glasses, I may be able to find it amongst the piles of junk mail in my to-do drawer.
Perhaps add some emotions, self talk, or actions would help, like:
In my frequent oversight these days, tense and confused feel like unwelcomed constant companions. Now where is my list of New Year's resolutions? It keeps getting misplaced, and for some reason, it's my roadmap to sanity with the mountains of unread mail. Oh, my glasses. Another items of the commonly lost items. Where are they? Why do I bother with a to-do drawer when I never do anything with it?
I hope these examples make sense. You have good basis for the story. Keep writing.
