Patiently, I got through the treatment which left me with the need to pray for patience again to survive my borrowed time while remaining identified with, “The Big C.” Being victimized by life seemed to be like a neon light on my fore-head, but once again, I patiently waited four years or more to survive my plight where I’d be cancer free. That day finally came for me. Yippie?
It was September, and that fact is something I remember vividly, because you see, September was not a good time for me, a teacher and single mother of three to lose her eye sight over night. That’s right. As patiently as I’d waited to see the light of truth about my life, I went blind over night and no one could tell me why. They said to be patient with the six medical specialist who did everything they could, only to send me home, “to wait and see.” How ironic can the need for patience be?
You see, I’ve been patiently waiting for my fate to change, for my destiny to be rearranged, for someone to show up who is always late or to correct some big mistake. Patience became a habit with me that was hard to break, so recently I got down on my knees to pray. “God, why do I always have to wait? Didn’t you say that whatever I ask to receive faithfully, will be received?” It seemed to me that by then, I’d have convinced Him that I deserved a break. It took God a day or two, but when He finally replied, it was if He whispered in my ear, “Why do you ask for things you don’t need, my dear?”
The awakening was rude, but today I finally see the truth. I guess you could say that although I lost my sight, I gained new vision in life. We already have the patience of saints. God gave it to us so that we’d survive our lives and every demise we create with our own mistakes, so the conclusion seems to be that patience is provided to all human beings, abundantly. That’s why I remain cancer free and why you should listen to me.
Don’t pray for patience, because if you do, God will give it to you. Instead, pray for peace of mind to arrive. With peace of mind, you won’t need patience of any kind. Besides, serenity is easier to find and takes a lot less time, so just ask for what you need with the faith it takes to have peace of mind while you wait to receive. God always provides more than enough of what we need.
