Sharon was my best friend and also my co-worker. Every Friday night after work you could find us with our young children at her house or mine sharing tacos and coke. Both of our husbands were at work, so we grabbed the time slot to enjoy the evening with each other and with our little ones. When the kids fell asleep, we finished up our girl-time with popcorn and a movie.
One day I took some paperwork to her, but she was not home. However, her husband was. I handed the paperwork to him and He asked me to come in and have a glass of iced tea. I did and when I got up to leave. He said, “Wait, can you use your long nails to scratch my back where I can’t reach it?” I thought nothing of it. I scratched his back where he indicated and then I left. Just helping a friend, right?
The next day at work, Sharon was acting a bit strange. She wouldn’t talk to me. I finally cornered her in a private room and asked her what could possibly be wrong. She told me that her husband told her that I tried to seduce him! Why did he do that? Was he jealous of the great friendship that we had? Did he want me out of her life? We will never know. Of course, I told her exactly what had transpired. She did not, indeed she would not, accept what I was saying but chose to believe the perverse man that was her husband. I mourned the loss of my best friend for a long time.
Now, years later, the only man’s back that I will scratch is that of my husband. I will go so far as to say that I will not allow myself to be alone with another man in order to prevent any imaginations, strife, lies, gossip, tale bearing and loss of friends. We have to avoid even the appearance of evil, or the opportunity for it. Ladies be especially aware of this subtle trap of the enemy of our souls.
Because Jesus forgave me of all my sins, I forgave Sharon’s perverse husband and I pray that He will give his life to Jesus.
“Lord, deliver us from evil and alert us to any possible dangerous situations that we need to avoid. Thank you for your loving care and most of all thank you for forgiving our sins and allowing us to be called your children”.
