The pilot smiled at Kaylee and spoke into his headset microphone, “I’m Jed. Welcome aboard. After take-off we will ascend to 3000feet... from there, the view of the coral reef is spectacular.â€
As the helicopter climbed, Jed peered at the reef and whistled, “Look at that majestic display of creation. Today’s conditions are brilliant: low tide, clear water and no clouds to mute the colors!â€
Kaylee examined the myriad of hues: blues, greens and turquoise; whites, browns and gold, “This is incredible… the colors… they’re…. luminescent… wow!“
Jed nodded, “Stunning!â€
“I love the way it sparkles and dances… It’s as if the whole reef is alive.â€
Jed grinned and muttered, “Man is without excuse…â€
Kaylee frowned,“Huh?â€
Jed chuckled, “It great that you appreciate God’s splendor... you keen to see if we can spot any marine life?"
Kaylee’s eyes lit up, “Would we be able to see them from the helicopter?â€
Jed nodded and descended to 600 ft, “Aah, sea grass... a dead give-away… see if you can spot…â€
Kaylee bubbled, “Oh, look! Turtles! Loads of them… and look, look…a stingray!†She felt exhilarated, “I never imagined that I would see so much!â€
Jed chuckled, “Wait until you go snorkeling.â€
Kaylee shook her head, “I’m not particularly bothered about snorkeling… I’ve had my highlight for the day.â€
Jed eyebrows shot up, “You’re kidding… right?â€
“Nah! I don’t want to dilute my high! What could beat my seeing turtles and that stingray?â€
“There’s a whole other world under the water… it’s mind-blowing! You’ve got to give it a try!â€
Kaylee shrugged, “Pffff … I’m not convinced… who cares about a few piddling fish? I plan to spend the rest of the day sun-tanning.â€

As Kaylee wiped the sweat off her face and sipped some water she looked across the surface of the water. Perhaps a swim will cool me down… I may as well try the snorkeling thing although I can’t imagine there will be much to see.
Kaylee collected snorkel apparatus from the hire booth and strolled towards the galvanized steel launch platform. The warm seawater lapped her legs as she sat on the top step. She shoved each foot into the respective flipper and lowered herself onto a submerged rung. Kaylee strapped the face-mask on and forced it to suction over her eyes and nose. She fitted the snorkel into her mouth and bit onto the mouthpiece. Uggh salt!
Kaylee took a deep breath, adjusted her snorkel and gingerly lowered her face into the water. She kicked her flipper-feet and propelled towards a coral outcrop.
The sunlight gleamed through the crystal water and showcased the diversity of coral: an assortment of shapes and textures and colors. She drifted above the wonderland: entranced.
The profusion of fish, resplendent in dazzling colors and striking patterns, flicked and darted. Kaylee observed the pantomime: flabbergasted.
She had entered a hidden realm. She floated in space. Time evaporated. Her reality blurred.
WOW! Wow… wow… wow! This is unbelievable!
She was captivated!
FWEET, FWEEEEET! The whistle shattered Kaylee’s reverence. The lifeguard beckoned the swimmers return to the boat. She glared at him: irritated.
Kaylee dawdled back to the vessel. . No, no, no… It’s too soon… I never want to leave here…
“I see you snorkeled after allâ€, Jed chuckled as he offered to help her onto the platform.
Kaylee gripped his hand, “Wow! That was awesome!â€
Jed chuckled, “Glad you enjoyed it.â€
“It was breath-taking: the intricate designs; the distinctive markings; the vibrant color; the diversity of creatures; the variety of coral…â€
Jed beamed, “God is a Master Craftsman!â€
Kaylee twitched her nose, “I had no clue snorkeling would be so amazing… why would God hide such magnificence? I mean, you have to wear goggles to see it! â€
Jed pondered, “Hmmm… Maybe God was in a creative mood and did it for fun… for his own enjoyment… and not necessarily with humans in mind.“
“But that would be a waste! What if goggles had never been invented?â€
“I agree, it would be a shame for us to miss out… but maybe it’s a hint given to help navigate through the mystery of life.â€
Kaylee raised her eyebrows: puzzled.
Jed’s eyes twinkled, “Just because you can’t see something with your natural eyes… doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist or that it is not real.â€
